Hi, I have a '71 2002tii that I think might be "misfiring". It usually starts fine but the (what I think is) missing will start during freeway driving and will continue to get worse when I get back into the city. When starting while the car is missing it feels like the car is starting in third gear with massive violent jerking until about 3000 rpm. Also while letting off the gas until about 2500 rpm then getting back on it easy the car will jerk and the revs will fluctuate no matter what gear I am in. This has been going on since Thursday and has actualyl caused the car to die on me 3-4 times but only on the first day it was happening. The car only has 25000 miles on the brand new tii engine. Please tell me if this is misfiring or something else.

Who built the motor? Have you been in contact with them? The problem with carburetor and point ignition cars is that you have to be something of a gear head to own/drive one. I suggest starting with the basics (check timing, plugs, mixture) and let us know.
