Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
1988 Other Subaru Models 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 238000 miles

the manual I have only gives me instructions for repacking bearing on a 2 wheel drive. I need to repack the rear wheel bearing on a 4 wheel drive. I have the axle shaft removed but not seeing exactly what procedure would be for getting spindle and bearings out of hub. This is a 3 door coupe model, there are no stickers on doors or anywhere on the car. I beleive it often falls under the GL desination. don't know that for sure though. Some parts houses show it in their books and some don't. This is a Subaru assembled in Japan!!

WHEEL BEARINGS
Removal (4WD Models)
Apply parking brake. Remove cotter pin and loosen castle nut. Disconnect shock absorber from inner arm. Loosen lock bolts of crossmember outer bushing.
Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels. Separate front drive axle shaft from hub and support out of way. Remove castle nut and brake drum or disc/hub assembly (if equipped).
Disconnect brake line from brake hose at inner arm bracket. Remove brake assembly (drum brakes) from trailing arm. Remove bolt holding inner arm bushing mount to crossmember. Remove 3 bolts connecting inner arm and outer arm. Remove inner arm.
Put inner arm in a vise. Straighten staked portion of ring nut. Using Socket (925550000), remove ring nut. Remove spindle by lightly tapping inward with a plastic hammer. Remove outer oil seal from inner arm housing. Press bearings and races from housing and spindle.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten ring nut to specification. Lock ring nut by staking a point on housing surface facing ring nut groove.
Install new inner and outer oil seals using Installer (925530000). Tighten castle nut to specification. Ensure washer is positioned behind castle nut. Bleed brakes. Check rear wheel alignment. See appropriate article in the WHEEL ALIGNMENT section.
