1988 Other Ford Models 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

Hi There,
I recently purchaed my Dad's 1988 Ford Laser which he has had for 20 years and kept in immaculate condition. However recently it won't turn off when I switch off the ignition and I have to stall it to stop the engine turning over. Also it feels like it is revving faster than normal. We had a man from the RACV (Roadside Assist) come out and he thinks it could be the head gasket or the carburettor. I do not have any problems starting the car. The iginition switch was stiff last week and the RACV used some WD40 and it has been fine since. However we are now having the above problem that the car will not stop even when the iginition is turned off. I'd really appreciate your help. Kind Regards, Jo Rafferty from Melbourne (Australia)

Would have to suspect ignition switch that would be the only way power would stay on to ignition. Switch at bottom and top side collum.
