Electrical problem 1988 Mercury Tracer 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic ---------------------------------------------------------------- Gentleman, I got the Tracer from my Grandmother 32,000 mi bought a cheap Pep boys battery and drove it to Maine from PA. Did not drive the car much but one day after an hour or so drive I noticed the lights and radio dimming. Alternator! No, techs say it is not the alternator. Car breaks down - internal water pump - Ahh that was dragging the alternator down. Fix it all up - back on the road new belts timing chain and all. Alternator charginng? Yep, they say. 1 hour trip stranded again with same problem. Help!
