1988 Ford Bronco Car doesn't start, and is only making this

Engine Mechanical problem
1988 Ford Bronco 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive 760000 miles

When I try to turn the car on, it only makes a grinding noise or more like something is spinning or turning around but nothing else. What does that mean and what am I looking for?
