Engine Performance problem
1988 Chevy Beretta 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 75000 miles

I have a 1988 Beretta that surges when you go down the road. It idles great and you can "wind it up" setting in the drive and it runs great. The problem is when you go down the road. I am going to try a fuel regulator tonight. However, I there is another problem that concerns me. My actron scantool will not read the data from the computer. Does that mean the ECM is going bad? I get a lot of weird noises out of the right front speaker, although I do not know if that has anything to do with the ECM. Another site suggested that there could be an intermittent failure of the ECM.
