Engine Mechanical problem
1987 Nissan Truck 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 107000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Thiis is my 2nd attempt to get an answer to my problem. No responses to the first time even after a donation was made.

My 1987 Nissan SEV6 4WD truck (107,000 miles) starts and idles perfectly. However, when you give press the accelerator, the engine begins to accelerate then falls off in a repeated, rythymic pattern. I've replaced the fuel filter, but no change.

I'm looking for help on this one PLEASE!

Tim.

The truck idles perfectly, but when you give it gas, this is when the surging/falling begins. The more gas you give it, the more violent the effect. If you give it enough gas it will eventually die.

The truck is not driveable due to this problem. Any help you can give would be a help. Two donations have now been made.

ok this sounds like a fuel flow problem, we need to find out how much fuel pressure we have, if you dont have a fuel pressure gauge you can try spraying starter fluid into intake while giving it gas in neutral and when it bogs down then spray into intake, if it picks right up and revs up then i would suspect a weak fuel pump. let me know

Good call Tim. The engive revs right up when starting fluid is spraying in. I'm going to drop the tank and replace the fuel pump and see what happens. Thanks!
