1986 Other Subaru Models timing

Electrical problem
1986 Other Subaru Models 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 208000 miles

I pulled the distribatur out of my 86 brat,so the parts house could find the router by matching the #'s on it. I marked the dist and the block. I replaced the dist matched the marks up. I pointed the rotor at the wrong spot at first and then I pointed it at the #1 on the cap and tryed starting it. It seems out of time it wont start and it back fires out the carb,it how ever does turn over like it use to. It just wont start. what did I do wrong?

Hi there,

It sounds as if the ignition timing is way out. You will have to re set the distributor on No 1 TDC and re do the timing.
