Transmission problem

Tranmission will shift into reverse and 1st gear with a moderate jerk. When I start to drive, it will not shift into 2nd. This happened without warning as we have not had any issues with the transmission. I checked fluid and it seemed to be low. I added 1 pint and there was no change.
