I have a 1985 Dodge Ram Van, 1 Ton with a 5.9L V8. It has about 125,000 Miles.
Recently, it has developed a problem where the engine will not start as long as the starter is engaged. It wants to start in the few seconds between when the starter is no longer engaged, and the engine is still turning having not yet stopped. I have reverted to quickly clicking the ignition off and on just after releasing the starter. Each time, it will turn a bit faster until if finally takes hold and starts. You can hold the starter on as long as you like and it will not start, but at the moment that you release the key, it will try to fire, and many times will start. Some times you must do this several times or do the off/on clicking between the OFF and ON position described above.
Any Ideas? I am past stumped! |
