Engine Performance problem

Hi, I got my old truck a few months ago and it seems to be having some problems. When first started, the truck idles well until put into gear where it nearly dies out. When put back into park after driving the engine idles extremly high. It seems to have nearly no power, and shifts hard. If you have any suggestions please email them to me. Thanks!
