Engine Performance problem

i have a datsun nissan model 210....which i aquired recently...i have noticed when i start it ....white smoke comes from the exhaust rearend....but only until the engine warms up....afterwards when i drive it..lets says before 15minutes...the car tends not to have enough power...but afterwards...it runs smoothly...when the engine has heated up. I am guessing that...since i havent done oil change from the time i bought it....there might be an acumulation of oil sludge..thats preventing the engine from running properly...i am thinking of doing an oil change to see whether that problem will cease..but i wll be grateful in receiving your professional opinion..
