Engine Mechanical problem
1970 Volkswagen Beetle 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

My 1970 vw bug with 1600 cc motor 34 pict carb. Car starts easily when cold but after running 20-30 minutes and then sits for 10-15 minutes it is hard to start. It turns over fine but won't start. I pump the gas and it finally starts but then smells flooded. What are your suggestions? Thank you. dh
