Engine Cooling problem
1967 Volkswagen Beetle 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 215,00 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I put a 1600 cc engine from a '73 beetle in my '67 beetle that was orriginally made for a 1500 cc engine. I can't get it to run for very long at a decent speed without overheating. Is it possible that there are not enough air intake vents in the body of my '67 for the bigger engine? Also, I didn't install the heat shield that sits behind the engine just above the muffler because it didn't fit quite right. Is it possible that the missing heat shield is the problem?
Thanks for the help!

As to your question about the overheating, the tin wear that sits between the muffler and engine is very important. this piece of tin stops the hot air that has passed your cylinders from being recirculated
through the dog house cooler.
Also make sure that the rubber seal is attached around the engine bay and change oil every 5000
or 6000 ks.
Kind Regards
David Hagen
