Replacing an Engine Air Filter Video
Replacing your engine's air
filter is a relatively simple repair
that can be done in a few minutes with everyday tools in most cases. The air filter
for your engine is one of the most important filters used in the automobile today.
This filter cleans and removes the air the
engine uses for combustion.
If dirt is allowed inside the engine it can score the cylinder walls resulting
in low power and
poor economy. In severe cases
the engine can seize due to excessive friction caused by dirt. When replacing the
engine air filter be sure to "match up" the old filter to the new filter. If the
filters are slightly different in size it could cause big problems by allowing debris
in between the filter and the filter housing.
After the old air filter has been removed use a clean, damp towel to wipe out
any excess dirt that remains in the air filter housing. Never run an engine without
an air filter because not only does an air filter clean the air it acts as a water
break in heavy ran and will keep out larger items such as leaves and twigs. When
an engine is operating it takes in a massive amount of air, if this air intake is
impaired it can cause the engine to have low power and in some cases misfire and
stall.
