Testing a Car Engine Ignition SystemThis video contains basic testing procedure using an automotive test light as
the detection tool. The test light will not be harmed during this procedure due
to the low amperage of the system. This is a basic test that will inform you if
the ignition system is working. All combustion
engine need an ignition spark to ignite the fuel inside the combustion chamber.
If no spark is present the engine
will not start.
Ignition System
When performing the actual test it is best to dim the lights
to be able to observe the test spark clearly. Never allow fuel to be present while
performing this test as the fuel may ignite causing a fire. Keep arms and fingers
out of the way of rotating parts the engine because the it will be cranked over
during the test. A helper will be needed during the test to assist you in turning
the ignition key to the crank position to activate the test.
